Easter Exchange

I participated in an Easter Exchange and I received this beauty from Shay

Gifts From The Heart Easter Exchange
Designer: Lizzie * Kate
Stitched by: Shay
What a wonderful Easter surprise. I am so excited; this is my very first cube. Shay did a great job on the stitching and finishing. She selected an adorable Lizzie and Kate design and used the perfect spring fabric for finishing. This is such a great addition to my Easter decorations.
I was treated to some wonderful extras….

Thank you so much Shay for making this such a special exchange!

To answer MelissaD's question about Threadworx Journal: "Is there a way to get the previous newsletter?"

If you go to the Threadworx link on my sidebar and sign up you will get an automatic response providing you with the link for the Premier Issue.

I spent this past weekend at a Stitching Retreat in San Antonio and had a great time. The highlight of the trip was getting to meet Cindy and her friends but I do not have time to post about this today (I must get ready to head out to a quilt guild meeting). It will take me quite a bit of time to prepare a post about what an amazingly productive stitcher Cindy is. Wow, you will be SHOCKED when I share with you how much stitching that girl can crank out in a weekend! ;)

Keep those needles flying and enjoy the week!

Until next time...

A Visit To New Orleans

My sons flew from the northeast to New Orleans on a Habitat for Humanity Volunteer trip. They have done this a number of times but this is the first time that we were able to meet them there. Now that we live in Texas the drive was a mere 350 miles and well worth it to spend a few days exploring the French Quarters and visiting with them both. I had only driven through Louisiana but never had the opportunity to see New Orleans; here are just a few pictures:

My son warned me that I would not like Bourbon street…he knows me well, I did not but I did enjoy the French Market and the many street performers.

I had the opportunity to stand in an endless line of people at the popular Café Du Monde so that we could enjoy coffee and beignets. Yes, I did indulge but was unwilling to go on camera eating these high calorie treats but I was quick to snap these:

Always clowning around and making us laugh my younger son posed for a picture with his New Orleans girlfriend:

Like any true stitcher, I spent more time packing up my “cross stitch” bag for this trip but I did not work on one thing the entire weekend.

I did learn that my Easter Exchange had arrived so I can share pictures of the Flat Fold that I sent to Julianne:

Gifts from the Heart Easter Exchange
Design: Easter Tree
Stitched for: Julianne
Finish: Flat Fold

I stitched the same design for my dear friend Paula C. as an Easter surprise:

Designer: Nouveau Encore Design
Design: Easter Tree
Stitched For: Paula C.
Finish: Flat Fold

I am a bit concerned that the ornament I stitched for the March Ornament Exchange may have gone missing in the mail. I mailed it 2/24 and still have not heard a thing so it does not look promising, I will however keep my fingers crossed as the moderator checks into this for me!

That's it for today, thanks for dropping by and please do come back again!

Until next time...

Have You Seen Threadworx Journal?

Have you heard about the new, fiber e-publication (currently complimentary) called Threadworx Journal? The Journal is a bi-monthly publication that premiered in January 2010; it offers both Cross Stitch and Needlepoint.

A review of the Table of Contents is a clear indication that this is much more than a newsletter:

News & Events
What’s New
Book Review
Stash away
Needlework Tech
All About Stitch Guides
Fiber & Color
Quick Stitch Free Designs
Bird Club Series (free bird design in each issue)
Reference

It truly is “A reference publication for fiber, color and stitching”. As I read the first issue, my eyes danced through the What’s New section; 6 pages of beautiful Threadworx fibers. The new colors in Wool, Cotton Floss, Legacy, and Metallic are eye-candy for sure! Reading a bit further, I came across creative pattern designs that utilized these wonderful fibers. Be sure to print out the reference pages they offer a very helpful Fiber Guide detailing which fibers, including number of strands, can be used with various fabrics.

Who is the mastermind behind the new Threadworx Journal? The very talented Beth Hendzlik, the designer of Fanci That cross-stitch designs! Being that I am such a fan of her designs, I was very excited when I met up with her through online blogging! I was honored when Beth asked if I would be interested in stitching the cross stitch model for the Threadworx Journal Bird Club Series. Each issue will feature a Bird Design with Pattern/Stitch Guide and will highlight a particular fiber, February featured the Cardinal and April will feature the Hummingbird.

Below is a picture of the Cardinal design that I stitched. To understand the meaning of “Creating with Fiber” you must look at what Beth did with the design after I returned it to her…it is awesome!

BEFORE

AFTER

Now how great is that? I just love the finished look! Beth added the featured fiber: Legacy fiber, which gives the feathery effect. Detailed instructions for creating this look can be found in the premiere edition of Theadworx Journal.

I love Beth’s idea of making each of the birds into an ornament to display year round. I think one would look so cute perched in my new Feather Tree.

Don't miss out, be sure to take a look at Threadworx Journal and have it delivered to your email. Subscribe here it is as easy as that! I have added this link on my sidebar.

Beth, I wish you great success with your new venture with Threadworx. Your Premiere edition of Threadworx Journal is wonderful; I look forward to the Spring Issue! If you would like to read more about Beth Hendzlink, there is a very nice article in Nuts About Needlepoint.
