Where Is The Good In Goodbye?

92 DAYS…He was here for 92 days but now he’s gone. On August 21st he boarded a flight to the Northeast to return to college. Today he officially begins his junior year; let the fun (stress) begin! (GL,GL,GL).

Was I sad to see him leave? His room is no longer a mess, the media room is no longer littered with big red plastic cups, I have barely any laundry to do, multiple pairs of shoes no longer carpet the kitchen floor, a body is missing from the couch, and dinner is not worth making. So yes, I miss him! He makes me laugh, always.

They leave you with the pain of an empty bedroom, an empty clothes closet, a pantry with no “junk” food, an all too quiet house, and this song playing on the radio:

May the good Lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud, dignified and true
And do unto others as you'd have done to you

Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you’ll always stay
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to Heaven
With a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young

And when you finally fly away
I’ll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I’ll be right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Rod Stewart: Forever Young

I dropped a tear in the ocean. The day you find it is the day I will stop missing you. ~Author Unknown

Until next time...

I swear, ever since I became a mother, EVERYthing makes me cry and that song always puts a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes! They never tell you that the hardest part of parenting, after all your years of worry and careful care, is to let them go...

Just when I had compartmentalized Peter heading back down to Texas for college... Of course the song is a heart wrencher, but, your post is exactly what happens and howI feel. I don't think the pain/feeling ever really goes away completely. It's yet another piece of life that hurts at times. My son had to go back at the beginning of August...

Oh my goodness, I want to start sobbing. My son doesn't go to college until next year, but I know that I'm going to miss him tons.

You made me cry :)
But think how wonderful it is to see him spread his wings and fly because of you :)

Bittersweet. We raise them so they can go away and leave us bereft.

Even bittersweet moments are important in life Marie. I love that Rod Stewart song and also When We Were the New Boys by him too -both can bring a tear to my eye about times gone by.

What a beautiful post Marie. I have twin boys that are in college and there are many bittersweet moments in watching them become the men they were meant to be. They will always of course be "our little boys". :o)

well damm woman! I came to peek in and see what you were up to and I leave with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat and it's not even noon yet! lol

Seriously, that was a lovely post and I so know how you feel, although I still have one at home going to college, it's crazy how empty the house is when he's gone for a long weekend. And when his big brother moved out .. how different we all were. Bittersweet for sure.

btw, that's one of my all time favorite songs .. we played it at my mom's funeral .. somehow it just fit there too.

Hugs Sweetie :)

I know, I know, dear Marie. It hurts so badly when they leave...I'm soooo sorry. He'll be back, but while he's gone, it's not easy. Love and hugs, your friend, Deb
