Tried My Hand At Something New

I stitched for Amy in the HOE Halloween Ornament Exchange. I tried a new finishing technique and I love how it turned out.

2014 HOE Halloween Ornament Round #3
Designer: JBW
Design: Halloween Ornament 1 & 2
Stitched for: Amy V-M

These were such a quick stitch that it was only fair that I stitch 3 for this exchange.

The finishing was done by hand, no machine required.  The blanket stitch and french knots are the only two stitches used (I can't help but think of Shirlee each time I make a french knot ;-D).

When I make these ornaments again I will put together a tutorial and add it to my blog.

Thanks for stopping by and...

Oh the things that make people think of me : ) I do indeed rue the day someone invented french knots, but I so love blanket stitching!

How cute! Very clever finish right down to the curlicue hangers. I just may have to steal that idea.

Hi Marie - JUST LOVELY!
I am looking forward to your tutorial.
For the french knot strugglers, a little mill hill bead will do the trick and add some sparkle, which would work nicely on a Christmas Tree ornament. I would love to make some of these using Christmas Motifs for our Guild Christmas Sale.
When I was learning how to perfect a french knot, I would put a cushion on my knee and after wrapping the thread around the needle, park the tip of the needle into the fabric, into the cushion underneath which kind of parks the needle, leaving an extra hand to tighten the thread around the needle before you pull the needle right through.
Of course, it helps to use a straw needle too.
